"And now it's payback time," Kyna hissed. "Well, that's fine by us. Go get him."
The corpse just stared.
"What's wrong?" Cyrus asked.
"This was to be the night of retributionthe night some of us have been waiting on for decades."
"What the hell happened?" Kyna asked.
"You allowed him to recover the Butcher's Broom."
"There you go again," Cyrus muttered.
"The talisman," Morales said. "The necklace!"
Kyna slapped the Indian's hand away, but the arm broke off at the shoulder and spun off into the darkness.
"Morales, you were an asshole and a creep when you were alive!" she hissed. "And being dead hasn't improved you any. I didn't let him do any damned thing."
The Indian's other arm came up as Morales tried to reestablish contact, but Kyna backed away. Cyrus placed his hand gently in the middle of her back so as not to spook her and whispered in her ear, "Maybe now isn't the right time to rehash old grudges."
Kyna closed her eyes, took a deep breath and let it out loudly through her nose. Opening her eyes again, she asked, "What do you want?"
The corpse shuffled forward and placed its remaining hand on her shoulder.

"Hurry!" the Dark Man urged. "They mustn't escape."
"Where could they go?" the goateed man asked, playing his light along the dank walls of the hidden tunnel.
"This passageway was here, wasn't it? There may be others that lead to the outside."
The tunnel led downever down. The dark was as total as any the goateed man had ever experienced. He was no longer a Christian, but any second he expected to come face-to-face
